Produced by Tenuta Il Poggione one of the historic, founding estates of the Brunello di Montalcino consortium, owned by the Franceschi family since the late 19th century this wine is crafted with the same rigorous viticultural standards as the estate's world-renowned Brunellos. Sourced from estate vineyard parcels situated on the southern slopes of Montalcino at elevations between 150 and 450 meters above sea level, the vines average 15 to 20 years of age and are rooted in nutrient-poor soils composed of galestro (schistose clay), limestone, and gravelly silt. The estate's warm Mediterranean microclimate benefits from cooling breezes sweeping off the Tyrrhenian Sea and Mount Amiata, allowing Sangiovese Grosso to achieve full phenolic maturity while preserving a bright, mouthwatering natural acidity.
