The 2018 Haras de Pirque Cabernet Franc Gran Reserva 'Galantas' is a striking red wine from the Maipo Valley in Chile. This wine primarily features Cabernet Franc, with a small addition of Carménère, reflecting the cool climate and high-altitude vineyards in the Maipo Andes at over 700 meters above sea level.
Colour: Deep red with purple hues.
Aroma: Offers intense aromas of blackberries, blueberries, and subtle hints of tobacco and roasted coffee.
Palate: Smooth and structured, with dark fruits, cassis, and notes of graphite. Its tannins are refined, providing a silky mouthfeel.
Body: Full-bodied, with a well-integrated structure.
Finish: Long, persistent, with a vibrant and fresh character.
This wine was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, enhancing its complexity while preserving its elegance. With an ABV of around 14.5%, it pairs beautifully with grilled meats and robust dishes. The 2018 vintage, marked by a cooler growing season, allowed the grapes to develop slowly, achieving optimal ripeness and balance.
This wine represents the highest expression of Cabernet Franc in the Maipo Valley, showcasing the region's capacity to produce elegant and distinctive wines with excellent aging potential, drinking well now but capable of developing further through the next decade.
