The Gurkha Cellar Reserve 15-Year Kraken is built around the tobacco that established the Cellar Reserve name: 15-year-aged Dominican filler. The original blend pairs that mature Dominican core with a Dominican Olor binder and an oily Criollo 1998 wrapper, producing a cigar that leans into the richness and rounded character of well-aged Dominican leaf rather than sheer strength.
At 6" x 60, the Kraken puts a substantial amount of filler tobacco into the equation. That matters with this blend—the broad ring gauge gives the aged Dominican core a larger voice, while the Criollo wrapper contributes enough spice and aroma to keep the cigar defined. The profile is woody and earthy with restrained cocoa, warm spice and natural sweetness. There is plenty of body, but the mature tobacco keeps the smoke composed and noticeably softer around the edges than the size might suggest.
The Kraken is for the large-ring smoker who wants tobacco depth rather than simply more power. A slow cadence is particularly important with a 60-ring cigar, and the Cellar Reserve rewards that patience by letting the aged Dominican tobacco remain the focus. If the 15-year filler is what draws you to Cellar Reserve, the Kraken gives you plenty of it. Set aside some time, pour something worth lingering over, and let this one develop at its own pace.
