Beavertail Raspberry Ale is one of the most famous fruit beers in Western Canada, brewed by The Grizzly Paw Brewing Company in Canmore, Alberta. A longtime favorite in their mountain-side taproom, it is designed to be a crisp, accessible wheat ale with a vibrant fruit twist. Named after the iconic Canadian pastry (and the flat tail of the national animal), it has become a "must-try" for visitors to the Rockies, prized for its natural fruit flavor and refreshing qualities.
Beer Description
This fruit ale pours a beautiful, slightly hazy reddish-pink color with a soft, pink-tinged white head.
Aroma: It features an immediate and unmistakable bouquet of fresh, sun-ripened raspberries. The aroma is bright and sweet-tart, with a subtle, bready malt background from the wheat base.
Palate: On the tongue, it is light-bodied and effervescent. It leads with a gentle, wheaty sweetness that is quickly followed by the tangy, authentic flavor of real raspberries. It strikes a fine balance between tart and sweet, avoiding the syrupy heaviness of many fruit beers and finishing clean and dry.
Profile: It has a highly sessionable ABV of 5.0% and a very low bitterness of 10 IBU, allowing the fruit aromatics to take center stage.
Technical Notes: Brewed as a traditional North American wheat ale using a significant portion of malted wheat for a smooth, soft mouthfeel. It is infused with natural raspberry puree during the conditioning process to ensure a genuine fruit character and its signature ruby-pink hue.
