Glen Elgin 36 Year Old (43.7% ABV) is an ultra-rare, well-matured single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Glen Elgin Distillery in Fogwatt, Speyside. Renowned for its traditional worm-tub condensers, long fermentations, and slow distillation, Glen Elgin produces a naturally waxy, sweet, and ester-rich spirit. Matured for over three and a half decades in oak casks, this expression represents the pinnacle of Glen Elgin’s aging potential, where decade-spanning maturation transforms the distillery's signature honeyed citrus profile into an exceptionally complex, silky tapestry of tropical fruit preserve, antique polished oak, beeswax, and delicate baking spices. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 43.7% ABV without chill filtration or artificial coloring, it stands as a collector-grade Speyside masterpiece.
Food Pairing: Pairs exceptionally well with fine dark chocolate ganache, aged Gouda or Comté cheese, roasted duck breast with orange reduction, tarte Tatin, or enjoyed as a standalone meditative digestif.
Tasting Notes: An exceptionally complex, velvety single malt presenting notes of beeswax, tropical fruit preserve, polished mahogany, orange oil, acacia honey, and warm wood spices.
Nose: Fragrant and rich with aromas of honeycomb, beeswax, dried mango, candied orange peel, old leather, vanilla bean, and polished antique oak.
Palate: Silky, round, and luscious on the palate with layers of poached pear, papaya, buttered brioche, orange marmalade, dark honey, and subtle clove spice.
Finish: Exceptionally long, elegant, and warming with lingering notes of sweet tropical fruit, waxiness, gentle citrus oils, and refined wood tannins.
Serve: Best enjoyed neat in a Glencairn glass or copita after allowing it to breathe for several minutes to fully unveil its intricate 36-year oak layers.
