This structured and 'classic' red wine originates from the United States, within the Napa Valley region of California and the specific appellation of Rutherford. Sourced entirely from the historic Rutherford bench, Frog's Leap was founded in 1981 by John Williams and has spent decades acquiring highly sought-after land to perfect its craft. Today, the estate is guided by John and Rory Williams alongside vineyardist Frank Leeds. The winemaking team operates under a strict philosophy of balance, restraint, and deep respect for the natural expression of the vine, utilizing minimal cellar intervention to capture the true essence of its unique ten-square-mile terroir.
Wine Description
Frog's Leap Estate Cabernet Sauvignon presents an opaque ruby appearance in the glass. Its sensory profile is wonderfully deep and aromatic, opening with cassis-currant aromas and the classic notes of 'Rutherford Dust', layered with earthen flavours of cedar, black olive, tobacco, and graphite. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, showcasing a velvety, plush mouthfeel with suppleness to the mid-palate and lightly tactile, powdery tannins. It is characterized by its signature restraint and a seriously savoury streak that gives the wine tremendous freshness and lift, concluding with a long, elegant finish accented by lingering spices and mouthwatering acidity.
This expression is a traditional blend consisting of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc, sourced across the Chavez-Leeds, Williams-Rossi, and Red Barn estate vineyards. The fruit was completely destemmed and fermented on its native yeasts over 10 to 15 days before undergoing natural malolactic fermentation. The wine reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 14.0% and was matured in French oak barrels (25% new) for 20 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Reflecting the core values of the estate, the vines average 20 years of age and are 100% certified organic and dry-farmed in gravelly loam soils.
