Established in 1886, Freemark Abbey Winery is one of Napa Valley's historic wineries, located in St. Helena, California. With a legacy spanning over a century, the winery has been instrumental in shaping Napa's winemaking heritage, consistently producing wines that reflect the region's unique terroir.
2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2019 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by small percentages of Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. In the glass, it exhibits a deep garnet color. The nose reveals aromas of dark chocolate, pomegranate, cedar shavings, blackberry, and leather.
On the palate, flavors of blueberry compote, black cherry, espresso, and cigar box emerge, accompanied by bright and juicy fruit-forward sensations. The wine's texture is rich and bold, with well-structured tannins that make it approachable now, yet suitable for aging over the next decade or more.
Food Pairing
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs excellently with grilled ribeye steak, roasted lamb, or aged cheddar cheese. These pairings enhance the wine's robust flavors and create a harmonious dining experience.
Accolades
- Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points. "A fresh, polished style, with a relatively open-knit core."
- Gismondi on Wine: 92 Points. "In 2019, this Napa Valley Cabernet opens with rich dark baking chocolate and blackberry. Similar flavors mark the palate with some espresso and reasonably bright acidity that lends a fresh, juicy character to what is a youthful red."
