Frank August constantly challenges how we perceive modern American whiskey. Their seventh experimental release, affectionately dubbed "French Connection," draws inspiration from the historic 1884 gesture when France gifted the Statue of Liberty to the United States. Seven hand-selected barrels form this intricate blend of Kentucky straight bourbon and rye whiskies. This ambitious whiskey commands your attention. The distillers took things drastically further by finishing the spirit across Calvados, Martinique rhum, and Caribbean rum casks.
This expression proves that profound flavor profiles emerge through thoughtful exchange rather than mere transaction. Instead of merely decorating the base spirit, this intricate maturation builds an entirely contemporary identity where bright apple-brandy characteristics mingle effortlessly with lush sugarcane depth. Bottled at a deliberate 107.4 proof—a sly nod to the July 4th date—the liquid maintains enough architectural integrity to champion its diverse finishing vessels. You'll appreciate the restraint.
