Let me spin you a tale. Our barrel-picking adventures with premium members take us beyond Kentucky's borders, often into the wild unknown. Imagine us expecting the usual but stumbling upon barrels that knock our socks off - the good kind of unexpected.
Take the Stranahan's barrel saga: a wild card that turned into a jackpot, thanks to some of you daring souls. That barrel wasn't your average Stranahan's; it was a revelation.
And here's the kicker - during the same jaunt, we hit up a hidden gem in Denver, Mile High Spirits, home of the "Fireside" brand. Picture this: a craft distillery tucked behind a dive bar, brewing up surprises that could give mainstream brands a run for their money.
Their bourbon? A solid meh at first sip. But, because we're us, we dug deeper. And guess what? They had not one, but TWO secret weapons: a five-grain rye with a global twist and a peated American malt that could rival any Scotch. These weren't just good; they were "call your mom because you've just seen a unicorn" good.
This peated malt, aged for 6 years, is a smoke show in a glass! It's made with 80% peated barley and four other unique malts and aged for 5 years in the Mile High City, where the thin, crisp air of the Rockies meets the time-honored techniques of distilling peat moss-smoked barley from the bogs of Scotland. Aged to perfection, it's a bold and captivating expression of what happens when the best grains from Scotland encounter the unmatched altitude of Colorado.
Expect flavors as complex as a highland maze, with notes of rugged adventure, hints of Wild West charm, and a finish that'll linger longer than your Uncle Angus's stories by the fireside. We're talking a whiskey so smooth it'll make you wonder if bagpipes ever got a bad rap.
Best part? It was supposed to be distillery-only unicorns, but guess who's got them? Yep, we do. And now you can, too.
Stay tuned, and get ready to have your taste buds blown away. These finds are coming soon to our club, and trust me, you won't want to miss out.
