Heaven Hill rarely misses a historical milestone, but this momentous release carries staggering gravity. Distilled to definitively honor the nation's rapidly approaching semiquincentennial, this Evan Williams single barrel expression operates as a brilliant masterclass in meticulous, high-stakes maturation. Master distillers rigorously scoured the sprawling Kentucky rickhouses to isolate exactly 250 extraordinary casks for this deeply allocated project. This bourbon demands sheer attention. Bottled at a deliberate 117.76 proof—an undeniably clever tribute to the year of American independence—it's delivering a profoundly concentrated profile that easily outshines their standard vintage releases.
It's built entirely on their revered traditional mashbill containing 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye. Pouring a glass reveals an astonishing depth that only seven years of patient aging inside heavily charred American white oak can yield. The texture coats the glass beautifully. High-proof bourbons often battle with overpowering ethanol burn, yet this meticulously aged spirit manages to maintain exquisite structural balance alongside its formidable heat, proving the sheer expertise of the distillers. You'll notice a dense, almost syrupy mouthfeel that beautifully amplifies the underlying orchard fruit and rich oak tannins.
It's a heavily restricted run, and acquiring a bottle feels like securing a tangible fragment of whiskey history. Collectors and enthusiasts alike will quickly recognize the immense value packed into this commemorative heavy-hitter. It belongs in your collection. The dense flavor concentration and elevated proof ultimately transform a familiar Kentucky staple into a highly coveted historical artifact that unequivocally deserves a prominent, front-row position on your top shelf. Pour it neat or let a solitary ice cube slowly unlock the deeply embedded baking spices and hidden orchard sweetness.
