The Evan Williams 1783 American Hero Edition Straight Bourbon Whiskey 1.75L (often referred to as American Hero Edition 2) is a compelling, tribute-style expression of classic Kentucky bourbon that pairs approachable richness with smooth drinkability. Bottled at 90 proof and presented in an oversized 1.75 L format, it delivers balanced oak, vanilla, and caramel character with a warming finish that’s versatile neat, on ice, or in cocktails.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Produced by the historic, Bardstown-based bourbon maker behind the Evan Williams family of whiskeys, this edition is part of the American-Made Heroes program, an annual limited release honoring U.S. veterans and supporting veteran-focused nonprofits with a portion of proceeds from each bottle sold. Each year’s batch is selected by a group of American Hero honorees who help choose barrels for release—a tradition designed to connect community legacy with the craft of bourbon making.
This Bourbon embodies that heritage through a blend of small batch barrels from the Evan Williams 1783 line, matured in charred oak to build depth and integrated wood spice. At 90 proof (45% ABV), the bourbon offers a pocket of intensity without overpowering strength, designed for both bourbon newcomers and seasoned drinkers alike.
Critics Reviews
As a limited special edition tied to a broader brand program and not a single barrel, there are no widely published professional critic scores from authoritative spirits publications like Whisky Advocate or The Spirits Business for this specific American Hero Edition bourbon. However, reviewers and community tasters frequently cite this expression’s balanced profile with vanilla, caramel, and oak notes, reflecting the classic Evan Williams 1783 small batch style.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Warm and inviting with notes of caramel, vanilla bean, toasted oak, and subtle baking spices that hint at the bourbon’s barrel influence.
Palate: Smooth and medium-bodied, with layers of rich caramel and toffee supported by oak spice, honeyed sweetness, and a touch of brown sugar. A gentle structure keeps the flavors framed without harshness.
Finish: Pleasantly warm and lingering, with soft oak, vanilla, and gentle spice that fade evenly, making it approachable for sipping or mixing.
