The Esteban Carreras Soga de Oro Sumatra Toro is a distinctive boutique cigar that combines traditional craftsmanship with a visually striking presentation. Measuring approximately 5 3/4 x 54, this Toro features an Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper draped over a Nicaraguan binder from Condega and a blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers, resulting in a well-balanced, medium-to-full-bodied smoking experience.
What immediately sets this cigar apart is its unique “rope of gold” design, where a twisted tobacco cord replaces the conventional band, paying homage to old-world rolling techniques while giving the cigar a rustic, artisanal appeal. Carefully aged, with the wrapper matured for several years and the finished cigars resting further before release, the blend achieves a notable smoothness and refinement.
Upon lighting, the profile opens with rich notes of earth, cedar, and natural spice. As the cigar develops, flavours of roasted nuts, leather, and subtle sweetness emerge, creating a layered and evolving smoke. The final third introduces deeper tones of cocoa and espresso, adding complexity without overpowering the palate.
The Toro format ensures an even burn and consistent draw, allowing the flavours to unfold gradually from start to finish. Crafted in limited quantities at Tabacalera Carreras in Nicaragua, the Soga de Oro Sumatra Toro exemplifies the brand’s commitment to quality, offering aficionados a refined yet characterful cigar with both visual flair and depth of flavour. Size: Toro 5 ¾ x 54. Note: these are now shipping in plain packaging with authentic bands underneath.
