Privada Storytelling
Espinosa’s Murciélago already carried a legend—named after the Spanish word for “bat,” it was a blend shrouded in mystery and rebirth, co-created with Don Pepín García before disappearing for years and eventually being reclaimed by Erik Espinosa. But Privada wanted to take it further, to dissect the anatomy of the bat itself.
Thus, the Murciélago Anatomy Of A Bat was born: a collaboration between Erik Espinosa, his master blender Hector Alfonso, and Privada Cigar Club. Released in time for Halloween, this project deconstructs the Murciélago blend, offering puro “test cigars” that separate seco, viso, and ligero. It’s not just a cigar release—it’s an education in tobacco anatomy, an interactive deep dive into how a world-class cigar is built.
For those who joined Erik, Hector, and Brian live on Privada’s YouTube channel for the unveiling, it wasn’t just a launch—it was a masterclass in flavor and construction.
Flavor Journey
-
Seco: Delicate, aromatic, mild in strength. Notes of earth, cedar, and subtle floral sweetness, prized for its combustibility.
-
Viso: Middle priming, more body and complexity. Offers cocoa, dried fruit, and a steady backbone of flavor.
-
Ligero: The powerhouse. Pepper, espresso, and dark spice drive intensity, adding strength and long-lasting character.
-
Complete Blend (Murciélago): When united, the tobaccos create a rich, medium-bodied masterpiece: earth, cocoa, espresso, cedar, and a crescendo of pepper spice balanced by San Andrés sweetness.
Why It Belongs in Privada
No other cigar club would dare to break apart a famous blend and share its inner workings with the world. Privada thrives on education, storytelling, and insider access, and the Anatomy Of A Bat epitomizes that mission. It belongs in Privada because it is exclusive, experimental, and unforgettable—giving members both a sensory experience and an education that elevates them as smokers.
