The Espinosa Comfortably Numb Vol. 3 is arguably where the series becomes most interesting from a blender's standpoint. Espinosa pairs a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper with a Mexican San Andrés binder and Nicaraguan long-fillers, essentially putting the darker character of San Andrés underneath the wrapper rather than making it the first thing the palate encounters. It's an unusual enough combination to make Vol. 3 distinctly different from the two cigars that came before it.
That construction gives the Habano wrapper room to establish the cigar before the heavier character underneath begins to show itself. The profile is earthy and spicy with a restrained underlying sweetness, while the San Andrés binder adds some darker weight without turning Vol. 3 into a conventional Maduro. Medium-to-full in character, it has a little more contrast and texture than a straightforward Nicaraguan Habano blend.
For the seasoned smoker working through the Comfortably Numb series, don't overlook Vol. 3. The wrapper-and-binder combination makes this more than another variation on the same theme, and it's the sort of blend that becomes more interesting when you know what you're smoking. Pick up a few and pay attention to what that San Andrés binder brings to the Nicaraguan Habano around it.
