Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Noir Clay Court originates from the United States, within the Chehalem Mountains subregion of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Founded in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell, Elk Cove is one of Oregon's oldest and most respected family-owned wineries. The winemaking is led by Adam Campbell, who joined his parents in 1995 and continues their philosophy of estate-grown excellence and gentle gravity-flow processing to achieve the elegance and texture characteristic of fine Pinot Noir. The 15-acre Clay Court Vineyard, purchased by the winery in 2009, is situated on Parrett Mountain and is named for the founders' beloved tennis court located on the site.
Wine Description
This wine typically displays a bright ruby red colour and offers a complex sensory profile. The aromatic bouquet features red raspberry, ripe cherry, and floral notes of dried rose petals and orange blossom, often complemented by earthy undertones of tobacco, cinnamon, and saddle leather. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and fleshy, delivering concentrated flavours of cranberry, tart cherry, and plum balanced by a gravelly minerality and bright acidity. The structure is defined by fine-grained, tactile tannins that lead to a long, spicy finish with lingering notes of black tea and savory herbs.
Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir, specifically Pommard and modern Dijon clones 115 and 777.
ABV: Generally ranges from 13% to 14%.
Ageing: Matured for 10 months in French oak barrels, typically with 20% to 40% new oak.
Organic Status: While not specifically certified organic, the winery focuses on sustainable farming and gentle, natural handling of the fruit.
