Twice Barreled Straight Rye Whiskey
Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Rye takes the award-winning Straight Rye Whiskey to new heights through an innovative double-barrel finishing process. After fully maturing in traditional new charred oak barrels, this rye is transferred to a second, custom toasted new oak barrel where it develops even more flavor complexity. The result adds a balanced layer of sweet oak complexity to the bold, spicy character rye lovers expect.
The Toasted Barrel Process
While traditional rye barrels are charred, the second barrel used for Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Rye is toasted instead. This gentler heat treatment caramelizes the wood sugars differently, extracting sweeter, more nuanced flavors like vanilla, caramel, and baking spices that beautifully complement the peppery rye spice without overwhelming it.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Bold rye spice with enhanced vanilla, caramel, and sweet toasted oak notes
- Palate: Full-bodied with peppery rye, brown sugar, cinnamon, and layers of toasted oak sweetness balanced by the rye's natural spice
- Finish: Long, warming finish with lingering spice and complex oak character from the dual barrel treatment
