James Hetfield has gained renown as frontman for the hard-driving rock group Metallica and his passionate forays into whiskey distilling and cigar making. Metallica’s Blackened whiskey, a collaboration with master distiller Rob Dietrich, set the stage for another blockbuster partnership between Hetfield, Dietrich, and Drew Estate’s Jonathan Drew. Their first cigar line, Blackened M81, is a bonafide hit, and the Blackened S84 “Shade to Black” series is a knockout of a follow-up.
The Blackened S84 blend takes its predecessor’s potent blend of Nicaraguan and Pennsylvanian Broadleaf filler tobaccos, tucks them in a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and cloaks them in a bright Connecticut Shade wrapper from Ecuador. The result is the bold richness of the original with a slightly more approachable, refined character.
The Blackened S84 Toro is a 6” x 52 stick that lures you in with a pleasing, unassuming look. Once it’s afire, though, its rich texture unloads onto the palate, creating a deliciously velvety mouthfeel from start to finish. Pepper, earth, and wood notes provide the hook, while chocolate and cashew flavors strum the tastebuds with every puff. Sweet and spicy blasts create harmony before an unforgettable finish.
The Blackened S84 Toro is a beautifully conceived smoke that takes the power of the original M81 blend and the elegant sophistication of Connecticut Shade tobaccos to create a thrilling cigar-smoking experience. Grab your favorite top-shelf whiskey and rock out with this sumptuous Nicaraguan-made smoke.
