Originating from Italy within the island region of Sicily, specifically from the Contessa Entellina estate in southwestern Sicily, Donnafugata 'Sherazade' Nero d'Avola represents an aromatic, fruit-driven, and supple expression of Sicily's signature red variety. Crafted by the Rallo family of Donnafugata, the wine draws its name from the legendary female storyteller of the One Thousand and One Nights, reflecting the wine's captivating, seductive character and soft oriental spice notes. Sourced from estate vineyards planted on clay-limestone soils at elevations between 200 and 400 metres, the winemaking philosophy emphasizes gentle handling, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, complete avoidance of oak aging, and short bottle refinement to preserve pure primary red fruit aromatics, smooth tannins, and bright Mediterranean freshness.
Wine Description
The wine presents a deep, clear dark ruby purple colour with bright violet reflections along the rim. An expressive, fruit-forward bouquet opens with enticing aromas of ripe red cherry, wild plum, crushed raspberry, and red currant, interwoven with subtle notes of violet petals, black pepper, liquorice, and sweet Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is medium bodied, silky, and rounded, delivering generous flavours of juicy dark fruit, red berry jam, and subtle mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering core of natural acidity. Framed by soft, fine-grained tannins and a supple, fluid mid-palate structure, it concludes with a clean, persistent finish marked by lingering cherry fruit, mild spice, and a fresh mineral lift. Composed of 100% Nero d'Avola, it combines Sicilian sunshine warmth with effortless elegance, freshness, and versatility.
