This white wine hails from Austria, specifically the Kamptal region. Schloss Gobelsburg is the oldest winery in the area, with a history tracing back to 1171 when it was managed by Cistercian monks. Today, the estate is led by Michael Moosbrugger. The Domaene Gobelsburg line represents their regional selection, crafted to be an accessible and representative expression of the Kamptal terroir. The winery focuses on sustainable practices and minimal intervention, often utilizing fruit from younger vines in esteemed vineyards like Gaisberg and Heiligenstein.
Wine Description
The Domaine Gobelsburg Riesling shows a clear, pale straw color in the glass. On the nose, it is highly aromatic and fresh, revealing scents of green apple, Meyer lemon, and white peach, accompanied by floral notes of jasmine and a subtle, flinty minerality. The palate is light to medium-bodied and bone-dry, characterized by a zippy, racy acidity that provides a sense of energy and lift. It offers clean flavors of citrus zest and stone fruit, leading to a refreshing finish with a lingering touch of salinity. This 100% Riesling is fermented in stainless steel to preserve its delicate aromatics and is bottled with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of approximately 12.5%.
Food Pairing
This wine's bright acidity and clean fruit profile make it an incredibly versatile food companion. It is a classic match for seafood, particularly shellfish, shrimp tempura, or grilled white fish. It also pairs wonderfully with spicy Asian cuisine, such as Thai green curry or Vietnamese spring rolls, where its acidity can temper heat. Additionally, it works well with light poultry dishes and fresh salads featuring goat cheese.
