Sourced from ancient, low-yielding vines grown on steep schist terraces along the Douro River near Pinhão, the 2011 growing season benefited from ideal winter rainfall and warm, sunny summer conditions, yielding fruit of extraordinary concentration and freshness. The grapes were traditionally foot-trodden in stone lagares to ensure gentle, thorough extraction before fortification with fine neutral grape spirit and brief maturation in large oak vats.
