Courvoisier Château Limoges Extra is a collector's cognac in a decanter of Royal Limoges porcelain. The famous porcelain house Bernardaud created these bottles in 1986. They marked the opening of the Courvoisier Centre in Miami, Florida. Limoges is the French city best known for its fine china.
The cognac inside is a Fine Champagne Extra. Fine Champagne means a blend from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus. These two areas are prized for elegant, long-lived spirits. The eaux-de-vie, or clear grape spirits, turn into cognac as they age in oak. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
On the nose, expect ripe fruit and dried flowers with gentle spice over fine oak. The palate is silky and full, with candied fruit, soft spice and toasted wood. The finish is long and warm, with fruit and oak that fade slowly.
This is a cognac to sip slowly, neat in a tulip glass. After dinner, try it with dark chocolate, roasted nuts or a fine cigar.
Many buyers want it for the decanter as much as the cognac. It looks striking on a bar shelf and makes a memorable gift. If you collect rare cognac bottles, this one deserves a place in your cabinet.
