Le Due Gemme Rosso is produced in the Tuscany region of Italy, specifically within the southern part of Montalcino. The estate, Tenuta di Collosorbo, was established in 1995 by Giovanna Ciacci following the division of her family's historic estate, Tenuta di Sesta, which dates back to 1850. The name 'Le Due Gemme' (meaning 'The Two Gems') is a tribute to Giovanna's two daughters, Laura and Lucia, who now manage the winery alongside her.
Wine Description
This wine features a rich ruby red colour, often showing purplish highlights in its youth. The sensory profile is intensely aromatic, offering notes of ripe cherry, strawberry, and black berries, balanced by floral hints of rose and exotic spices. On the palate, it is generous and fresh, displaying deep fruit flavours reminiscent of plum and roasted walnut with a menthol aftertaste. The structure is defined by fine, well-integrated tannins and a lively acidity that leads to a refreshing, medium-long finish. While older labels under the Sant'Antimo DOC were a broader blend of Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, recent releases of the Toscana Rosso IGT are a focused blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot. The wine typically has an ABV of 14.5% and is produced from the 'Il Quercione' vineyard, which has been farmed following organic principles since it was planted in 2001.
