Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages 2022 originates from the United States, within the Sonoma County region of California. Founded in 1973 by the Goff family, the winery rose to prominence for its commitment to single vineyard wines and its flagship Bordeaux style blend, Cinq Cepages, first introduced with the 1990 vintage. Since 2021, the estate has been owned by Foley Family Wines, which continues the winery's legacy of blending Old World elegance with California craftsmanship. The winemaking philosophy centres on selecting the finest fruit from across Sonoma's diverse sub appellations to create a wine that expresses the best of the region's terroir.
Wine Description
This iconic red blend presents an inky black carmine or deep purple hue. The sensory profile is complex and alluring, opening with sultry aromas of dark plum, blackberry, cassis, and lavender, accented by hints of cedar, vanilla, and baking chocolate. On the full bodied palate, the wine is plush and layered, delivering flavours of ripe black cherry, crème de cassis, dark chocolate, and graphite. The structure is defined by velvety, well integrated tannins and a fresh tension, leading to a long, graceful finish with nuances of cocoa nibs and fall spices.
Varietal Composition: 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 9% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot.
ABV: Typically ranges between 14.5% and 15.1%.
Organic Status: This wine is not certified organic, but it is classified as sustainably produced.
Stylistic Notes: The wine was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels (70% new) and is built for significant ageing, with a cellaring potential of 10 to 15 years.
