Castello Monaci Piluna Primitivo 2023 is a 100% Primitivo red from vineyards surrounding the Castello Monaci estate in Salento, Puglia. The exact 2023 importer record confirms the 750ml format, while the SGProof source establishes 14% ABV / 28 proof and UPC 089744754318. The vines grow in dry clay mixed with volcanic gravel and limestone, where roots must reach deeply for water and naturally low yields concentrate the fruit.
Harvest takes place by hand before dawn to protect the grapes from daytime heat. The wine is vinified in small stainless-steel tanks, then aged for six months in a combination of 75% stainless steel and 25% second- and third-use French oak. The importer describes a robust, concentrated palate with firm structure, small black-fruit character, and licorice through the aftertaste. Piluna takes its name from the ancient tuff-stone containers once used to preserve olive oil and wine, linking the bottling to the traditions of Salento.
