This prestigious red wine originates from Italy, within the world-renowned Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. appellation in Tuscany. Founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, the estate is now managed by Giacomo Neri and his sons, Giovanni and Gianlorenzo. Casanova di Neri has produced its 'White Label' Brunello since 1978, a classic expression designed to balance regional typicity with finesse and high aging potential. The winery's philosophy emphasizes a natural approach with a gravity-fed cellar built into the hillside to maintain constant, naturally regulated temperature and humidity.
Wine Description
The 2021 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino presents a deep ruby red hue with a brilliant sensory profile. Its sensory profile is multi-layered, featuring a complex nose of black raspberries, cherries, and blood orange shavings, layered with floral notes of lavender, dusty rose, and rosemary. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied and 'energetic', showcasing flavors of dark plum, soft berry fruit, and light chocolate underpinned by a bright spine of acidity. It is characterized by a glossy texture and fine, open-grained tannins that provide a long, focused finish with hints of licorice and clove. This 100% Sangiovese reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 14.5% and was aged for approximately 42 months in large oak casks before resting in the bottle. While the estate follows meticulous, low-impact viticulture, this bottling is not officially certified organic.
Vintage Quality
The 2021 vintage in Montalcino is regarded as 'memorable' and potentially legendary, receiving a five-star rating for its precision and aging potential. A mild, wet winter trundled into an icy spring, but a subsequent warm growing season with timely rains allowed for a normal harvest window. Winemakers successfully captured a 'nervy energy' and ripe, enveloping tannins that differentiate this vintage from the more immediate 2020 releases.
