Pink Freud is a 100% Aglianico rosato from Canlibero, a two-hectare estate in Torrecuso, in the Sannio Beneventano zone of Campania. Ennio Romano and Mena Iannella founded the project in 2011, initially vinifying in Mena's grandfather's cellar after deciding to stop selling fruit to the local cooperative. The 2019 vintage comes in at just 11% ABV, making it one of the lightest expressions of the label.
The vineyards sit at 420 to 470 meters above sea level within the Taburno National Park, on clay and rocky calcareous soils. Farming follows biodynamic principles, with only copper, sulfur, and biodynamic preparations used in the vineyard. The Aglianico parcels include the Turrumpiso site, where vines are over 50 years old, though the fruit for Pink Freud is sourced from younger parcels designated for rosé production.
In the cellar, grapes are destemmed and directly pressed, with spontaneous fermentation carried out using only native yeasts in stainless steel. The 2019 vintage aged for 9 months in stainless steel before bottling. No filtration, no fining, and no sulfites are added at any stage.
The result is a light ruby rosato with a nose of red berry fruit, floral notes, and a hint of spice. On the palate it is fresh and medium-bodied, with lively acidity and a persistent finish built around blood orange and wild cherry. Drink now while the fruit is vibrant.
