The Caldwell Anastasia Yellow Label Kartel comes from one of Robert Caldwell's most elusive projects. Anastasia first appeared in 2016 as a limited release and has remained deliberately mysterious ever since, with Caldwell revealing very little about the tobacco inside. The Yellow Label edition arrived in 2022 with a Habano wrapper, while the binder and filler were kept secret. For experienced smokers, that's part of Anastasia's appeal—there's no tobacco résumé telling the palate what it is supposed to find.
At 5" x 50, the Kartel is a classic Robusto and arguably one of the most natural formats for exploring a blend like this. The profile is nuanced rather than overpowering, moving through cedar, toasted nuts and earthy tobacco with pepper and warm baking spice, while subtler sweetness and occasional dried-fruit character provide contrast. There's enough strength underneath to give the cigar presence, but Anastasia is better approached for its balance and transitions than for sheer intensity.
The Kartel is a cigar for the smoker who enjoys a little mystery in the humidor. With only 750 boxes of this size originally produced, Yellow Label was never intended to be an everyday Caldwell. If you've worked your way through the core portfolio and want to see Robert Caldwell operating with fewer clues and considerably more intrigue, Anastasia Yellow Label Kartel is worth putting aside while examples can still be found.
