Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2014 is an elegant, unpeated Islay single malt that puts local barley and island provenance at the heart of the whisky. Distilled in 2014 from 100% Islay-grown Concerto and Propino barley, it was produced using barley sourced from eight farms within an 11-mile radius of Bruichladdich Distillery. Matured for eight years primarily in first-fill bourbon casks, with additional second-fill sherry butts and wine casks, it balances sweet malt with vibrant fruit and subtle maritime character.
The nose brings delicate florals, sweet malt, ripe grain, peach, honeyed melon, pear drops, vanilla, coconut, butterscotch, and warm banana bread. On the palate, creamy vanilla and lemon combine with nutmeg, sweet malt, warm porridge, popcorn, tropical fruit, and fragrant peach, while a drop of water reveals subtle marine notes. The finish is smooth and lingering, with stone fruit, vanilla custard, coconut, and a delicate floral touch. Enjoy it neat or with a few drops of water to explore its full character, making it an excellent choice for Scotch enthusiasts seeking an expressive whisky that showcases the distinctive terroir of Islay.
