The Breville Dual Boiler is a hands-on espresso machine with two stainless steel boilers, a PID-controlled heated group head, and a 58 mm portafilter that takes a full 22 gram dose. You grind, dose, tamp and texture the milk yourself, and the machine gives you the control and the stability to get all of it right.
This is the machine for the person who wants to make the coffee, not press a button. Two boilers mean espresso and steam run at their own temperatures at the same time, so nothing waits and nothing drops out of range. A PID holds the brew temperature where you set it. Low-pressure pre-infusion wets the puck before a 9 bar extraction, and a pressure gauge on the front tells you what actually happened. Every variable that matters is yours to move, and then to repeat.
Highlights
- Dual stainless steel boilers with a PID-controlled espresso boiler and a heated group head, so brewing and steaming happen at once and the temperature holds
- 58 mm commercial portafilter with a 22 gram dose, the café standard, with single and dual wall baskets and an integrated tamper included
- Low-pressure pre-infusion, then 9 bar extraction from a 15 bar Italian pump, which is what gives the shot an even start and a velvety body
- LCD screen and a live pressure gauge, so you can see the extraction rather than guess at it
- Volumetric or timed shot control, one shot, two shots or fully manual, and programmable to your recipe
- A proper manual steam wand that produces genuine microfoam once you have the technique, which is what latte art is poured from
Who it's for
- Home baristas who want to control extraction rather than have it handled, and who will enjoy dialling a new bag in
- Anyone moving up from an entry-level machine who has hit its ceiling on temperature stability or steam power
- Households making several milk drinks in a row, where a single boiler's brew-then-steam cycle is the bottleneck
Three things to be clear about before you buy. There is no grinder, so you will need a separate burr grinder and it matters more here than on any automatic machine. You tamp and texture the milk yourself, which is the point of this machine rather than a drawback. And like any espresso setup running fresh grounds, it rewards freshly roasted beans bought in smaller amounts more often. If that sounds like more involvement than you want, call us or visit the showroom and we will show you the machines that take those jobs off you.
Living with it
Daily, purge and wipe the steam wand, knock out the puck, and backflush with water. Milk left in a wand is the fastest way to ruin one.
Then periodically, run a cleaning cycle with a tablet and descale when the machine asks. Fit the included water filter and test your water hardness on day one, because scale is what shortens the life of a machine like this. The cleaning kit, water filter and hardness strip are all in the box.
FAQs
-
Does it come with a grinder?
No, and that is deliberate at this level: the grinder is half the result, so most owners want to choose it separately. Bring your beans and your budget to the showroom and we will help you pick a grinder that matches how you drink. -
Can it brew and steam at the same time?
Yes. Two separate stainless steel boilers hold brew and steam temperatures independently, so you can pull a shot and texture milk together with no switching or waiting. It is the practical reason to buy a dual boiler. -
Do I have to steam the milk myself?
Yes. This is a manual steam wand, not an automatic one. With a little practice it produces real microfoam, the silky kind you pour latte art with, and that control is why enthusiasts choose it. If you would rather the machine did it, tell us and we will show you the automatic options. -
What does the pressure gauge tell me?
It shows extraction pressure in real time, so you can see whether the shot is running fast or choking and adjust the grind accordingly. Paired with volumetric or timed shot control, it turns dialling in from guesswork into a repeatable process. -
What size portafilter and baskets does it use?
A 58 mm stainless steel portafilter holding a 22 gram dose, the commercial standard, so tampers, baskets and accessories are easy to source. Single and dual wall baskets and an integrated tamper are included. -
