Introduction
This red wine originates from Canada, specifically from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Founded in 1996, Black Hills Estate Winery is a pioneer of the Black Sage Bench, one of the most arid and sun drenched sites in the country. The winery's philosophy emphasizes a 'pre industrial' approach, utilizing small batch fermentation and traditional methods to capture the authentic expression of its unique desert terroir.
Wine Description
The Black Hills Bona Fide 2024 is a vibrant, deep crimson red with a complex sensory profile. The nose offers pure, expressive notes of sappy blackberry, red plum, and wild raspberry, elegantly framed by perfumed aromatics of white peppercorn, anise, and lavender. On the palate, the wine is juicy and full bodied, featuring a 'masterful balance' of fruit concentration and a distinct stony minerality. It is characterized by its polished, supple tannins and a beautifully textured finish. This blend typically consists of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Sangiovese. The wine was fermented with wild yeasts and matured for 10 months in concrete and French oak barriques. The ABV is 13.5%. While the estate follows sustainable practices and has transitioned to organic farming for its vineyards.
