Bird Dog Salted Caramel Whiskey starts with real Kentucky bourbon. The team at Western Spirits in Bowling Green, Kentucky, then adds a salted caramel flavor. It is bottled at 80 proof. That is a little stronger than many flavored whiskeys, so the bourbon still shows up in your glass.
Lift the glass and you get warm caramel first. Oak and vanilla sit right behind it. On the palate, the caramel turns creamy and soft. A pinch of salt keeps it from getting too sweet. Then the classic bourbon notes of vanilla and oak come through. The finish is warm and stays with you for a while. It fades out on that sweet and salty caramel.
This bottle has done well with judges. It took a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. In 2021 it won Gold at the SIP Awards. The Beverage Tasting Institute also gave it 92 points and a Gold Medal that same year.
You can sip it neat or pour it over a big ice cube. It also makes a great splash in hot coffee or hot chocolate. For a cocktail, try a salted caramel Old Fashioned. It works nicely as an after-dinner treat, too. Pair it with vanilla ice cream, warm brownies or a square of dark chocolate.
Bird Dog makes a whole range of flavored whiskeys, and this one is a crowd favorite. If you like bourbon but also have a sweet tooth, you will feel right at home. It is friendly for new whiskey drinkers. Seasoned fans who enjoy a dessert pour will like it too. Browse more from Bird Dog to find your next flavor.
