Big Tree Farms Organic Brown Coconut Sugar is an unrefined coconut blossom nectar sweetener with fine crystals that substitute 1:1 for cane sugar in baking and everyday use.
Harvested from coconut palm blossoms and minimally processed, this organic brown coconut sugar offers a caramel-like, mildly nutty flavor and fine texture designed to behave similarly to granulated cane sugar. Packaged as two 2-pound bags, it’s intended for cooks, bakers, and households seeking a sustainable, vegan sweetener with broad pantry versatility.
How does this coconut sugar perform in recipes?
It measures approximately 1:1 against regular cane sugar, so you can swap it in most cookie, cake, and beverage recipes without changing volume. The fine crystals dissolve well in batters and liquids, and they add a gentle caramel depth that enhances toasted or spiced flavors.
- 1:1 substitution for granulated sugar in baking
- Fine crystal texture suitable for dissolving in drinks and syrups
- Subtle caramel notes that complement brown-butter, spices, and chocolate
- Works in stovetop caramelizing and simple syrups
Is this product organic, unrefined, and sustainably produced?
Yes — the sugar is certified organic and made only from coconut blossom nectar that’s minimally processed into fine brown crystals. Coconut palms yield more sugar per acre than cane and can be tapped for decades, reducing the need to clear additional land and supporting long-term farm viability.
- Organic certification ensures no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers
- Unrefined processing retains natural minerals and flavor compounds
- Coconut trees provide long-lived, high-yield nectar harvests
- Brand supply chain focuses on sustainable sourcing and farmer impact
How does coconut sugar compare nutritionally and for special diets?
This coconut palm sugar is unrefined and contains small amounts of minerals and amino acids naturally present in nectar. While still a sweetener and to be used in moderation, its glycemic index is reported lower than refined cane sugar, which some consumers prefer when managing blood sugar response.
- Unrefined brown crystals preserve trace minerals
- Reported lower glycemic index versus refined cane sugar
- Vegan-friendly and made without animal-derived processing aids
- Suitable for many household diets seeking less-processed sweeteners
