Benromach Contrasts: Triple Distilled 2011 is a small batch of Benromach spirit that was distilled three times in 2011, once through the wash still and twice through the spirit still. It was matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, bottled in 2022 at 46% ABV, and is lighter and fruitier than the Signature range.

The Contrasts range
The Contrasts range is where Benromach steps away from its Signature style to test one variable at a time, such as the barley, the oak, the distillation or the peat. Each release is a limited small batch, bottled at 46% ABV with natural colour.
The whisky
Here the variable is distillation. In 2011 the team ran a small batch through the wash still once and the spirit still twice, producing a lighter spirit. After maturing in first-fill bourbon barrels it was bottled in 2022. Benromach's distillery manager Keith Cruickshank described it as slightly sweeter, with tropical notes such as pineapple, banana and coconut.
How to enjoy it
Serve it neat or with a splash of water as an aperitif. Its lighter body also makes it a good choice for a highball or a whisky sour.

What does triple distillation change?
An extra pass through the spirit still produces a lighter, cleaner spirit. Compared with the double-distilled Signature range, this release is softer in body and more focused on fresh and tropical fruit.
Is it smoky?
Only slightly. There is a hint of soft smoke on the finish, but fruit, vanilla and honey lead.
