BenRiach 2005 12 Year Old Cask #2565 is a limited-release Speyside single malt from BenRiach's Batch 14 single-cask collection. Distilled in 2005, this whisky spent its full 12-year maturation in a first-fill Oloroso sherry butt before being bottled in June 2017 at a natural cask strength of 58.8% ABV. Cask #2565 yielded only 625 individually numbered bottles and was released at natural colour without chill filtration. The first-fill Oloroso maturation delivers a rich combination of dried fruit, orchard fruit, warming spice and concentrated sherry sweetness.
Food Pairing: Pair with dark chocolate, sticky toffee pudding, roasted nuts, aged cheddar, fruitcake or slow-roasted pork with a dried-fruit glaze.
Tasting Notes: Rich and concentrated, combining dried fruits, crisp orchard fruit and sweet Oloroso character with cinnamon, black pepper, oak and golden syrup.
Nose: Sweet dried fruit with raisins and prunes, joined by crisp oak, citrus peel, cinnamon and a touch of black pepper.
Palate: Crisp oak and stem ginger lead into apple, peach and yellow plum, with warming pepper and cinnamon adding depth.
Finish: Rich golden syrup and barley sugar linger with gentle caramel-like sweetness and warming spice.
