The Ascaso Steel Duo Plus V2.5 is the top of Ascaso's Steel line for the home: a dual-thermoblock, PID-controlled 58mm machine that brews and steams at the same time, then hands you the adjustments — brew pressure, temperature, pre-infusion, shot volume — that usually only appear on machines twice its size. Built in Barcelona from steel and finished with real walnut, it is designed to be the centrepiece of a serious home coffee setup, not a scaled-down café machine.
Dual Thermoblock Power, Built For Back-To-Back Shots
- Two independent circuits: one thermoblock dedicated to brewing, one to steam, so you can pull a shot and texture milk simultaneously without waiting on a recovery cycle.
- 3 minute 30 second heat-up: stainless-steel-lined aluminum thermoblocks come up to temperature from cold in about three and a half minutes, and only heat the water you actually draw — roughly half the standby energy of a comparable boiler machine.
- Electronic group temperature control: PID regulation in one-degree increments on both circuits, so brew temperature holds where you set it from the first shot to the tenth.
What The "Plus" Adds
- Walnut joystick steam valve: a professional-style joystick replaces the standard knob — one smooth, intuitive movement from closed to full steam, with a walnut handle that stays cool in hand.
- Competition shower screen: distributes water evenly across the puck and resists coffee-residue buildup, which shows up in the cup as fewer channelled shots and, at the sink, as less frequent screen cleaning.
- Adjustable OPV: set your own brew pressure instead of living with a factory preset — the single most useful adjustment available on a vibratory-pump machine.
- Volumetric programming: program single and double shots by volume rather than time, so your dose-to-yield ratio stays consistent as beans and grind settings change.
- Dynamic pre-infusion: a fully adjustable low-pressure phase saturates the puck before full pressure arrives, evening out extraction on lighter, denser roasts.
- Hot water tap and active cup warmer: a dedicated stainless steel tap for tea and americanos, plus a heated top plate that brings cups to serving temperature while the machine warms.
- Programmable cleaning cycle and limescale prevention: an automated backflush routine and built-in scale protection look after a water circuit made entirely from food-safe AISI 316 stainless steel.
Design and Build
- Finish: powder-coated black carbon steel with polished stainless accents and real walnut detailing — a matte, low-glare surface that hides fingerprints better than any of the other finishes in the range.
- 58mm professional portafilters: two are included, both with solid walnut handles — a double-spout and a bottomless — alongside five baskets and a stainless steel tamper.
- Compact residential footprint: 10.5 inches wide and 12 3/8 inches deep, with 3.5 inches of cup clearance and a removable 67 oz (1.98 L) NSF- and FDA-approved polycarbonate reservoir.
Choosing Your Amperage
Ascaso builds the Duo Plus V2.5 for a NEMA 5-20 plug on a dedicated 20 amp circuit, which gives the fastest steam recovery. Most Canadian kitchens are wired for 15 amp circuits, so we stock both configurations. If you have a dedicated 20 amp outlet, choose 20 Amp for maximum steam performance; otherwise choose 15 Amp, which runs on a standard household circuit. Do not use an adaptor to run a 20 amp machine on a 15 amp circuit — it can trip breakers, and it can void the manufacturer's warranty.
