The Antinori 'Badia a Passignano' Chianti Classico originates from Italy, specifically the Tuscany region, within the subregion of Chianti Classico. The estate is a historic monastery dating back to 395 CE, where Galileo taught mathematics for a period. The vineyards are rich with the experience of centuries past. The estate was purchased by the esteemed Antinori winemaking family in 1987, who are now in their 26th generation of vintners. The wine made here is aged in the vast cellars that run beneath the Abbey, which date back to the 10th century and maintain constant temperature and humidity. The estate produces a single wine: the Chianti Classico Riserva or Gran Selezione.
Wine Description
This red wine is a Chianti Classico, typically holding the designation of Riserva or Gran Selezione, which is the highest designation of quality in Chianti. The varietal composition is 100 percent Sangiovese. It is deep ruby red in colour. The nose is complex and intense, presenting notes of black cherries, dog rose, delicate hints of milk chocolate and cocoa. The bouquet is completed by floral aromas of lavender, irises, saffron, and slightly aromatic powder, along with sweet notes of vanilla, cloves, and leather. The palate is lively, vibrant, lean, and defined by a long, savoury finish, or rich, mouth-filling, succulent, and flavourful. It is well-sustained by an extraordinary freshness and mineral qualities, with silky, vibrant tannins. It has a lingering flavour profile, and a persistent aftertaste of bitter cocoa and citrus. The wine is full-bodied and has a great aging potential. The Alcohol By Volume (ABV) is generally around 14.5 percent to 15 percent.
