This structured and 'approachable' red wine originates from Italy, within the expansive Provincia di Pavia I.G.T. appellation in the historic Oltrepò Pavese region of Lombardy, Northern Italy. Produced by Provvinco / Ambo Wines a modern winemaking house dedicated to showcasing regional Italian varietal classics with contemporary purity this bottling highlights Northern Italy's long-standing affinity for high-altitude Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir). Sourced from choice vineyard parcels planted along rolling foothill slopes at the base of the Apennines, the vines thrive in well-draining soils composed of clay, limestone, and gravelly marl. Northern Italy’s sub-alpine microclimate brings warm, sunny days tempered by cool mountain breezes descending from the Alps and Apennines, enabling Pinot Nero grapes to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness while retaining a crisp, mouthwatering natural acidity.
Wine Description
The Ambo Nero Pinot Noir presents a brilliant, translucent ruby color in the glass with bright garnet and violet reflections along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and fruit-forward, delivering an energetic, juicy, and elegant portrait of Northern Italian Pinot Nero. The bouquet opens with a soaring display of ripe red cherries, wild raspberries, and crushed red plums, seamlessly layered with subtle underlays of fresh violets, dried rose petals, subtle forest floor (sous-bois), and a clean line of soft stone minerality. On the palate, the wine is light-to-medium-bodied, sleek, and supple, showcasing a succulent core of tart red berries, cranberry, and blood orange zest. It is characterized by its balanced energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that maintains effortless drinkability across the mid-palate. The mouthfeel is weightless, silky, and smooth, framed by delicate, soft-grained tannins that glide into a crisp, dry finish accented by lingering notes of cherry skin, red currant, and mild herbal spice.
