The A.J. Fernandez Last Call Habano Pequeñas stretches the original Last Call concept into a more traditional, slender format. The line began with cigars A.J. Fernandez kept for guests at his home and tobacco operations in Nicaragua—something substantial enough to finish the evening without committing to another full-size cigar. The 5" x 46 Pequeñas stays true to that idea while giving the blend a little more room to develop than the shorter Geniales and Corticas.
An Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper surrounds Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos, a combination that is unmistakably Fernandez. The relatively narrow 46 ring gauge also makes the Pequeñas particularly appealing to smokers who prefer traditional proportions. There's plenty of wrapper influence, with cedar, toasted tobacco and restrained pepper leading the way, while the Nicaraguan core provides a deeper earthy character and subtle natural sweetness. It's a straightforward, tobacco-driven profile with enough strength to remind you that this is still an A.J. Fernandez cigar.
For the experienced smoker, the Pequeñas may be one of the more interesting Last Call formats simply because of its proportions. The 46 ring keeps the blend focused, while the five-inch length provides enough time for it to settle in and develop. If traditional ring gauges are your preference, put a few Pequeñas in the humidor. It's a compact cigar, but not one that feels rushed.
