This intermediate-level class focuses on understanding filter coffee extraction through taste, structure, and controlled adjustments. Hosted by ACE Coffee Roasters, this session is designed for people who already brew pour-over coffee and want to improve clarity, balance, and consistency.
Rather than memorizing recipes, the class teaches how grind size, brew ratio, and brewing method interact—and how to diagnose and fix a cup based on what you taste.
This is a hands-on, tasting-forward class built around brewing comparisons and guided sensory evaluation.
What’s Included:
-
Overview of pour-over equipment and how each tool affects extraction
-
Key brewing terms and concepts related to filter coffee extraction
-
Guided exploration of grind size and its impact on flavour and extraction
-
Brew ratio and strength exercises to understand intensity vs. balance
-
Multiple guided tastings comparing under-extracted, balanced, and over-extracted cups
-
A structured “taste first, adjust second” approach to troubleshooting
-
How to make one intentional adjustment at a time to improve results
-
Practical methods for building a repeatable home brewing routine
Who Should Attend:
This class is ideal for home brewers who already make pour-over coffee and want more control over flavour, strength, and consistency. It’s beneficial if your brews feel inconsistent, unclear, or complicated to troubleshoot.
You do not need professional experience, but this class assumes basic familiarity with pour-over brewing. All equipment and coffee are provided, and no prior technical knowledge is required.
