Adictivo Plata is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from the Los Valles region of Jalisco. The agave is cooked slowly in brick ovens. A roller mill then presses out the sweet juice. It ferments in stainless steel tanks and is distilled twice before bottling. The result is a bright, crystal-clear blanco.
The family behind Adictivo Tequila also makes aged expressions. Plata is the purest look at their agave. Nothing hides the raw material, so you taste exactly what the field and the still gave.
Swirl your glass and herbal notes rise first. Cooked agave sits underneath, with a light touch of vanilla sweetness. On the palate it feels soft and warm rather than sharp. Roasted agave leads, vanilla builds in the middle, and a pinch of white pepper wakes things up. The finish is clean and smooth, with sweet agave and a little pepper at the end.
Judges have noticed it. Total Wine lists a Double Gold and a Silver from the 2017 San Diego Spirits Festival. It added a Bronze there in 2018. It also took Gold and Best in Show at the World Spirit Competition.
You can sip it neat or chilled to enjoy that soft, peppery agave. It shines in a Margarita, a Paloma or a simple tequila soda. It also mixes well into other easy cocktails with fresh lime. For food, reach for ceviche, grilled shrimp or fish tacos. Spicy dishes like tacos al pastor work nicely too.
Want to taste it like a pro? Pour a small amount into a narrow glass and let it sit for a minute. Smell it gently, with your mouth slightly open, so the alcohol doesn't hide the agave. Then take a small sip and hold it on your tongue. You'll notice the herbal side first and the pepper a moment later. A second sip usually shows more sweetness than the first.
It also makes a thoughtful gift for a friend who is new to tequila. If you love clean, agave-forward blancos, this one is worth a spot in your bar. It is smooth enough for newcomers and still has real character. Pair it with other artisanal spirits for a fun tasting night with friends.
