Crafted in Portugal, Brandy 1920 is an iconic Portuguese spirit produced by Carvalho, Ribeiro & Ferreira (CR&F). First created to commemorate the historic year 1920, this classic aguardente is distilled from selected Portuguese wine grapes using continuous column stills to yield a smooth, aromatic wine spirit base. The distillate is then aged in seasoned oak casks, allowing the wood to impart a rich mahogany hue and complex oak-driven sweetness while rounding out the palate. Celebrated across Portugal and international markets for its approachable smoothness, subtle warmth, and exceptional balance, Brandy 1920 showcases notes of toasted oak, dried fruits, soft vanilla, and gentle baking spices.
Food Pairing: Roasted almonds, cured Portuguese meats (chouriço and presunto), dark chocolate with nuts, traditional egg-based Portuguese pastries (like Pastéis de Nata), or aged Queijo da Serra da Estrela.
Tasting Notes: Clear, deep golden-amber in appearance with warm copper highlights, a smooth light-to-medium body, and clean, fast-moving tears.
Nose: Warm, sweet, and inviting, opening with toasted oak wood, dried figs, and caramelized sugar, accompanied by soft vanilla bean, orange peel, raisins, and a subtle hint of nutmeg spice.
Palate: Smooth, round, and approachable on the palate, featuring sweet dark raisins, butterscotch, and light caramel upfront before unfolding into toasted oak tannins, gentle cinnamon, dried apricoth, and subtle toasted hazelnut.
Finish: Medium-long, smooth, and warm with lingering notes of sweet oak wood, dried fruit nectar, light vanilla, and a soft, clean spirit warmth.
Serve: Enjoy neat at room temperature in a classic cognac balloon glass or snifter to appreciate its warm oak aromas, or served over ice as an approachable digestif, or as a rich spirit base for classic coffee drinks and brandy cocktails.
