1731 Mauritius 7 Year Old is a single-origin rum released by the Amsterdam-based independent bottler 1731 Fine & Rare. This expression is sourced from the Grays Distillery, one of the oldest and most prestigious distilleries on the island of Mauritius. Unlike many traditional Caribbean rums that focus solely on bourbon barrel aging, this Mauritian rum highlights the island's French heritage through its unique finishing process. It is a molasses-based rum, column-distilled and fully matured in the tropical climate of Mauritius before being bottled at 46% ABV with no added sugar, colorings, or chill-filtration.
Spirit Description
The rum presents a bright golden color. It is most famous for its surprising and vibrant aromatic profile; the nose leads with an unmistakable burst of fresh mint and menthol, layered over fruity notes of peach, grapefruit peel, and green apple. On the palate, the texture is creamy and well-rounded, likely due to its aging for a minimum of seven years in ex-Cognac casks, with select portions of the blend finished in Port and Acacia wood. This combination delivers a complex interplay of spicy oak, gingerbread, and vanilla, with the refreshing minty note persisting throughout. The finish is long, dry, and elegant, leaving a trail of woody tannins and citrus marmalade.
